  • Description

Recorded as a duo with legendary bassist Gary Peacock, '53rd Street' reflects techniques developed over many years by pianist Robert Kaddouch in his attempts to embrace, capture and convey musical worlds which are close to his heart and relate to meaningful events in his life. His interpretation is linked to the authenticity of this approach which mixes jazz, children's songs, Yiddish themes and his own compositions.

What is the connection between "What Is This Thing Called Love", written by Cole Porter and sung on Broadway two months after the Crash of 1929, and "Jingle Bells", a Christmas song from 1857? Between "A la claire fontaine", inspired by an anonymous poem from the 18th century, and "Ani Purim", a festive theme from the Jewish tradition? Each goes way back in our collective memory. Each has travelled across borders, history and multiple interpretations.

Robert Kaddouch and Gary Peacock shape their common journey by alternating these traditional themes with standards arranged by Robert Kaddouch, as well as two of his own compositions ("53rd Street" and "Agile").
