Description
Liens et cycles pairs cellist Gozde Yasar and pianist Inci Yakar Birol in the cello sonatas of Cesar Franck and his devoted student Vincent d'Indy -- two works, four decades apart, built on the same cyclic principle of themes that vanish and return. Franck's A major Sonata (1886), a wedding gift for Eugene Ysaye, appears here in Jules Delsart's cello arrangement, alongside Franck's own posthumously published Melancolie. D'Indy's Op. 84, a late-life turn to the Baroque suite (Entree, Gavotte, Air, Gigue), shows how thoroughly the student absorbed his teacher's language and made it his own. Recorded across two sessions a year apart, by two Istanbul-based artists on faculty at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, this is a study in musical inheritance: one idea, carried from teacher to student and still in motion, more than a century on.
