Description
'Puppet Mischief' is saxophonist John Ellis's second album with the Double-Wide project, and sixth as a leader, composer and producer. The music of this new album has the tight togetherness of a modern jazz trio, exhibited through a distinctly rootsy New Orleans perspective, infused with the colours and sounds of a carnivalesque brass band.
The core of John Ellis & Double-Wide is a quartet, made up of John Ellis on saxophone, Jason Marsalis on drums, Matt Perrine on sousaphone and Brian Coogan on organ. This album features additional guests Gregoire Maret on harmonica (frequent guest of Herbie Hancock, Marcus Miller and Pat Metheny) and Alan Ferber on trombone.
