  • Description

Sibling Revelry is the début album from the distinguished Casey / Ní Chathasaigh sisters, who, having carved very different careers, have come together for this special project to mine the musical riches of their personal West Cork background, creating a unique and heartfelt sound. The recording showcases their exceptional expressive gifts and is a bewitching mixture of powerhouse Irish dance-music, rare and meltingly beautiful airs, exquisite songs and memorable new compositions - all suffused with their trademark lyricism.

Singer and fiddle-player Nollaig Casey is one of Ireland's most eminent musicians, whose powerful presence has graced two of Ireland's most ground-breaking bands, Planxty and Coolfin. She has been a soloist in Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center, toured the world with the hit show Riverdance, performed at the 2003 Special Olympics Opening Ceremony, been a soloist in over 20 feature films, recorded and/or performed with a who's who in Irish and international music (Van Morrison, Sinéad O'Connor, Alison Krauss, Enya, Rod Stewart, Emmylou Harris, Mary Black &c) and played on countless TV shows worldwide - among them the iconic Good Morning America and Transatlantic Sessions. "Exquisite fiddle- playing and superb vocals" (The Irish Times)

One of today's truly outstanding and innovative practitioners of the harp is Máire Ní Chathasaigh, producing a sound that is astonishing in its virtuosity, zest, energy and emotion. Dubbed "the doyenne of Irish harp players" by Scotland on Sunday, she has been garlanded with honours, including Irish music's most prestigious Award, Gradam Cheoil TG4 - Traditional Musician of the Year - and made seven eclectic and critically-acclaimed recordings with English virtuoso guitarist Chris Newman, with whom she has toured worldwide.
Multiple All-Ireland-winning Mairéad Ní Chathasaigh's sweet soaring voice and subtle, very traditional fiddle-playing make an intriguing contrast with her sisters' brilliant intensity and ground the music deeply in its roots.

The sisters are joined on three tracks by legendary Irish guitarist Arty McGlynn, who adds his special lustre to this most distinctive of albums.
