"This superb-sounding Pure Pleasure reissue (remastered by, yes you guessed it. Kevin Grey) brims with propulsive, almost manic energy, exemplified by the opening 'Distant Vibes' (a Kelly original). Sometimes, Kelly and his splendidly simpatico quartet let up the pace a little, but things never flag. There are covers of Strayhorn's 'Lush Life', Herbie's 'Dolphin Dance', Kern's 'Yesterday' and, inevitably, 'Same Shame' by his hero Hutcherson; but whatever material he tackles, Kelly's wonderfully crystalline, precise playing dominates, and never fails to satisfy or surprise.
If ever there was an album aptly titled, it is surely this: Kelly's musical bus (see the cover image) moves at such breakneck speed that there's barely time to pause. Thankfully Kelly & Co did stop off just long enough to record this album, which is a jewel." - Kevin Whitlock, Jazzwise -
