\u25CF This disc presents the first recording of the Canzonettas & Cantatas Op.3 by Giovanni Battista Mazzaferrata (c.1640-1691), an Italian composer and organist from Pavia, the pupil of Tarquinio Merula. He held positi- ons as Maestro di cappella at Vercelli Cathedral and at the Accademia della Morte in Ferrara. \u25CF These vocal works are on secular poetry, mostly dealing with Love, expressing both blissful happiness or tormented frustration. \u25CF The emotions in the text are expressed by Mazzaferrata through modulations, cadences and an original use of chromatism. \u25CF Beautifully sung by the three vocal soloists Carlotta Colombo (soprano), Marta Fumagalli (mezzo-soprano) and Mauro Borgioni (baritone). \u25CF The instrumental ensemble includes trombone, guitar, organ and harpsichord.
