Description
180-GRAM LIMITED EDITION RED VINYL - COMPLETE ALBUM + BONUS TRACK. Contains new specially prepared liner notes by Penguin Guide to Jazz's writer BRIAN MORTON and by Paris' prestigious JAZZ MAGAZINE
The complete original Erroll Garner album Concert by the Sea (Columbia CL-883), which marked the pianist's best-selling record ever. There was actually no official plan to record the concert, and the release came about because Garner's personal manager, Martha Glaser, spotted that a tape recorder was running backstage and decided to use the tape, originally intended for the Armed Forces Radio Network.
As a bonus, a live version of the perennial Garner composition "Misty," performed by the same trio the following year, has been added to this special edition.
"Concert by the Sea is certainly one of the biggest albums in jazz history, selling over 225,000 copies in the first year after its 1956 release. It should have turned Erroll Garner into a full-fledged superstar and, in a way, it did." - AllMusic (Stephen Thomas Erlewine)
