Description
'Dear John' is a collaboration between trumpet player Jan van Duikeren (40 years old) and drummer John Engels (80 years). The album contains new compositions by Jan van Duikeren and personal favourites of John Engels. They are joined by a special guest, saxophone player Benjamin Herman.
Many people have listened to Jan van Duikeren's trumpet playing, but never realised it, he is a steady force in many brass sections for both pop musicians (Marco Borsato, Trijntje Oosterhuis, Candy Dulfer) and jazz orchestra (Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw).
With his distinctive sound and energetic and lyrical approach, Rotterdam-based trumpet player Jan van Duikeren now ranks among a new generation of prominent musicians in the Dutch jazz scene. His extensive musical interests and outstanding versatility have ensured his success as a much sought-after solo player and sideman. This popularity has secured him an impressive array of musical outings with leading artists and bands representing virtually all musical genres. Including Candy Dulfer, Bob Brookmeyer, Christian McBride, James Carter, Paul Weller, Dr. John, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Sheila E, the Metropole Orchestra, Leon Ware, Diana Ross, The Four Tops and Lionel Richie. -
