Description
'Mr Handel's Musician' is a fascinating album which introduces the first recordings of many chamber music works composed in Handel's time in London, performed by oboist Benoit Laurent and Teatro del Mondo.
'Mr. Handel's Musicians' refers to several of Europe's most sought-after musicians who performed among the ranks of the opera company at the Haymarket Opera House. The brothers Castrucci, John Loeillet of London, Johann Ernst Galliard and Giuseppe Sammartini played under Handel's direction at the King's Theatre and thereby contributed to the overwhelming success of his works.
This album contains the world premiere recordings of Giuseppe St. Martini's Sonata II in G Major for Oboe and Continuo, William Babell's Sonata II in C minor for Oboe and Continuo, William de Fesch's English Song "Polly" and Thomas Vincent's "A Song" from his VI English Songs. Other chamber works by Handel, Andrea Caporale, Piero Castrucci, Johann Ernst Gaillard, Giacobbe Basevi Cervetto, John Loeillet of London and Giovanni Bononcini complete the album.
Benoit Laurent was a prize winner in the renowned competition Musica Antiqua in Bruges in 2008. He is Professor of Baroque oboe at the Conservatoire Royal in Brussels and makes regular appearances with Anima Eterna, Les Musiciens du Prince, Collegium Vocale Gent, and Concerto Köln, among others.
