Description
CPO's second release to pay homage to Buxtehude in 2007 takes the form of a new release featuring fully set cantatas and motets of concerto character in interpretations by Roland Wilson's Capella Ducale - with most of these performances representing world recording premi?¿res. In 1646 Franz Tunder, Buxtehude's predecessor, had begun performing sacred works during the L??beck Abendmusiken (sacred evening concerts) sponsored by the city's merchants. Buxtehude himself was very successful as a musical entrepreneur, even securing funding himself for these magnificent concerts. These performances quickly gained renown beyond L??beck's boundaries. The Abendmusiken featured festive cantatas on the large instrumental and vocal scale - such as those presented on this CD
