Probably no other German jazz musician united in his personality the musician and the mediator like Michael Naura, swing and bebop pioneer of the 1950s and 60s. Due to illness, he changed sides to a writer and NDR editor with a pointed tongue and feather, but stilldidn't quit studio work.

In 1971,Call was a signal to all those who no longer noticed him as a performer: With this quartet recording Naura shows that he had now turned to fusion, rock and free jazz on his e-piano - with a quartet in which Wolfgang Schlüter plays long time companion on the vibraphone and which is completed by the inventive bassist Eberhard Weber and drummer Joe Lay.

Brazilian soul and AOR doyen Ed Motta now presents this album as a profound connoisseur of German jazz history and an enthusiastic collector of MPS records. For him, the best proof that Vibraphon and Fender Rhodes are a perfect match, contrary to popular opinion, and that it is therefore one of his favourite European jazz albums.

The outstanding track for him is Why Is Mary So Nervous?, probably also because he made sure that it could be heard on board the planes of the Brazilian airline Varig at the end of the 90s.

Ed Motta is always impressed by the quality of the new MPS reissues: The new remastering is outstanding. Just right for MPS, just right for Call.
