Description
The concept behind Mick Moloney's latest release is intriguing: to chronicle Irish immigrant life in late 19th Century America through the songs of Harrigan and Braham, a famed song writing duo that formed in the 1870s and went on to write some of America's most popular songs of the era. Many of Harrigan and Braham's songs later became the basis for the full length theatrical productions that dominated the New York stage late in the 19th Century; these productions were carried from coast to coast by touring companies throughout the late 1800s.
McNally's Row Of Flats showcases Mick Moloney's particular genius for bringing the past to life through music. Assisted by some of today's finest traditional Irish music practioners, Moloney has created a true masterpiece that, at once, revitalizes and honours this fascinating collection of songs.
Mick Moloney has a unique place in the traditional music community. In addition to being one of the most highly acclaimed musicians in traditional Irish music, he is also a folklorist, educator and advocate. He has been awarded a National Heritage Fellowship by the National Endowment for the Arts – the highest honour a traditional musician can receive in the United States. He has recorded and produced over 40 albums of traditional music and acted as advisor for scores of festivals and concerts all over America.
Mick also served as the artistic director for several major arts tours including The Green Fields of America, an ensemble of Irish musicians, singers and dancers which has toured the US on several occasions.
Elaborate CD packing that includes a 32 page booklet with essay and archival photos of the period.
