Description
The late great guitarist/composer Attila Zoller, who passed away in 1998, is honoured by his students and friends - including Pat Metheny, Ron Carter, Jim Hall, Mike Stern and John Abercrombie - on this heartfelt tribute album.
Many of those featured (including Pat Metheny) received their decisive tuition at Zoller's Vermont Jazz Center. Zoller is today regarded as a key link between Europe and the American jazz scene, as a connection between the swinging tradition and the explosive avant-garde - and as an instrumentalist and composer who successfully blended Balkanesque fire with little highbrow nonchalance and plenty of free jazz explosiveness to create vibrant music.
The CD is introduced by a very personal message from Ron Carter. Immediately followed by a burning Mike Stern quartet, a fantastic duet between Pat Metheny and Jim Hall and ten more great compositions by Zoller played by fine American and European guitarists.
