Description
The Glasgow Improvisers Orchestra directed by bassist Barry Guy perform a composition he wrote inspired by the paintings of Wassily Kandinsky and a poem by Vladimir Mayakovsky, translated into Scots by the poet Edwin Morgan. The 47 minute work combines written and improvised sections and as a bonus the CD also includes Edwin Morgan reading the poem and discussing Vladimir Mayakovsky.
'Schweben - Ay, But Can Ye?' was recorded live at 'Stringfest' double bass festival, at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in 2009. This particular line-up of the orchestra contains 22 members, including Barry Guy on double bass, Maya Homburger on baroque violin, Raymond MacDonald on soprano and tenor saxophone and Catriona McKay on harp.
