Description
Beethoven's Violin Sonatas represent a turning point in the history of the violin and piano repertoire. Up until then pieces of this type were effectively piano sonatas with a violin accompaniment or obligato. Beethoven, however, adopts a new approach in which both instruments have an equal say. This 3-CD set presents all ten sonatas performed by the celebrated Duo Concertante, which features Nancy Dahn on violin and Timothy Steeves on piano.
Duo Concertante was formed in 1987 by violinist Nancy Dahn and pianist Timothy Steeves. They maintain a busy touring schedule across North America, Europe, and China, and have appeared at many of the great recital halls around the world including the Wigmore Hall in London, Weill Recital Hall in New York, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the National Arts Centre in Ottawa, and the Forbidden City Concert Hall in Beijing. Duo Concertante have released five previous CDs, of which the album 'It Takes Two' was described as "spectacular" by the American Record Guide.
