Description
Since relocating from his native Bologna (where he played in cult Italian band Gli Avvoltoi) to London in the early 1990s, Marco Magnani has been a stalwart of the city's underground scene where 60's pop and folk meets psychedelic rock n roll. Now with Mark & The Clouds as his current lineup, Magnani continues to write, produce and release great psych pop n roll records, centred around the 3-piece nucleus of Marco on vocals and guitar plus John O'Sullivan (Instant Flight/The Snakes/Limozine) on bass, and backing vocals, and Shin Okajima on drums (Shin and Marco formed The Smokers in 1994).
Machines Can't Hear You is the fourth Mark & The Clouds album, after Blue Skies Opening (2014) and Cumulus (2017) - both on Mega Dodo Records - and Waves (2021) on Gare du Nord Records.
The band recorded the album in an industrial estate in North London, with the finishing touches applied at Marco's own Woodstock Road Studios. The 17 tracks feature several guests from previous albums, including Tom and Joe Hammond, Tiberio Ventura, Rachel Kashi, Lucie Rejchrotova, and Javier Ayensa.
This is also the first Mark & The Clouds album to include 2 songs co-written by Marco Magnani and John O'Sullivan.
Viewing the world through a slightly darker lens, Machines Can't Hear You preserves the band's 60's and 70's classic rock influence, moving from acoustic folk to electric rock, via the prism of psychedelia.
