Description
It was at the Festival of Aix en Provence in 1956 that Michel Senechal (1927-2018) was revealed to the public with his splendid interpretation of Platee, the opera by Rameau.
A tenor with an easy top and an instantly recognisable timbre, he made his debuts in the Mozartian repertoire and also in the French repertoire (Le Comte Ory or La Dame Blanche of Boieldieu).
He appeared a lot in Europe, at the Salzburg festival and specialised in character roles. From 1982 he appeared every year at the MET opera and retired from the stage in 2004 after a final Chaplain in Dialogue des Carmelites (Poulenc).
This recording features 20 arias from 1948 to 1962 from Rameau to Sauguet including a private recording of the Cavatine from Faust (Gounod) 1948.
