Description
David Ford was born in Dartford, Kent just after Punk Rock had become New Wave. His music career began in 2001 as guitarist, singer and songwriter for the band Easyworld who released two albums on the Jive label before disbanding in 2004.
His former A&R Man, who was now his Manager, gave him some money to buy a basic home recording set up and Ford's debut solo album 'I Sincerely Apologise for All the Trouble I've Caused' was released by their own 'the magnolia label' in 2005.
In December 2005 the album was named as one of the 'ten albums of the year' in both The Sunday Times and Word Magazine. The song 'State of the Union' was included alongside songs by Tom Waits, Neil Young and Bruce Springsteen the soundtrack to Body of War, a documentary film about American Iraq War veteran Thomas Young.
The KOKO show received a 5 / 5 live review in The Guardian, who also ran an editorial feature piece entitled 'Have you met the new Boss?' Flattering but slightly cringe worthy! The Times gave a similar 100% review to the gig and ran a double page feature on David Ford in the Culture Section of their sister Sunday Times paper.
In both 2011 and 2012 David Ford returned to the USA and completed successful tours of all his usual supportive venues from Texas to Illinois. In May 2012 he stopped for a few days in Memphis in order to film a new session for the 'Sun Studios Session' TV programme and to spend a further day in the studio recording some songs and channelling the spirit of The King.
Somewhat out of the blue, in November 2012, David Ford was informed that the French pop legend, Johnny Hallyday, had taken a shine to Ford's songs and had covered one of them, I'm Alright Now' from the 'Songs for the Road' album, and that it was a hit in France and that Hallyday's latest album was at Number One! Hallyday has now commissioned Ford to write more songs for him and to help produce tracks for his forthcoming 'English language' album. Who knows where this might lead? It is all very strange, but just one more interesting and fun story in the tapestry of David Ford's music career.
For the last five years they have been presented as sold out shows at London's Bush Hall Theatre and at various venues in the North of England. These shows raise a handsome 5 figure sum for good causes and are a highlight of each year's end for Ford fans, who have been known to travel thousands of miles to attend these very informal and fun filled shows.
The next thing coming along is the new album 'Charge' released on 'the magnolia label' and accompanied by extensive tours of the UK, Ireland, Canada and the USA during the months of March to June 2013.
