  • Description

'7 Deadly Sings' is a major work from vocalist/composer Louise Gibbs, based on the Seven Deadly Sins. This original jazz song cycle features some of the very best musicians working in the UK today, including the saxophonists Tony Kofi and Tim Whitehead and trumpeter Quentin Collins. Each piece features one of these outstanding soloists.

The resulting album is an expressive and technical challenge - tightly scored to drive the narrative but with enough space to encourage the individual musician's creative input.

Louise Gibbs is a jazz vocalist, composer/arranger, educator and writer. She continues to negotiate the three-way pull between being a musician, a teacher and researcher for her more than 30 years of professional life. Louise has four critically acclaimed albums to her name on 33 Records - 'Invitation' (1998) with Lynne Arriale, Ron McClure & Steve Davis; 'Love You Madly' (1999) with Tony Coe & Brian Priestley; 'More Questions Than Answers' (2005) with Jonathan Gee, Jeremy Brown, Winston Clifford & Renato D'Aiello, and 'Everybody's Song But Our Own' (2008) with the celebrated pianist, Kirk Lightsey.

Personnel: Louise Gibbs (vocals), Tony Kofi (alto and baritone saxophones), Tim Whiitehead (tenor saxophone, bass clarinet), Quentin Collins (trumpet), Tom White (trombone), Sam Leak (piano), Oli Hayhurst (bass), Sam Gardner (drums)
