Description
Lol Coxhill (soprano saxophone), George Haslam (baritone saxophone), Howard Riley (piano), Paul Rutherford (trombone) recorded in various solo, duo and trio settings - as well as one epic 16 minute quartet recording - in The Holywell Music Room, Oxford, England. 22 Feb 1990.
The concert was recorded by Michael Gerzon as part of his extensive documentation of live improvised music in Oxford and London. His first recordings in the Holywell date back to 1967. For this concert a simple stereo-pair microphone technique was used to capture the sound of the room as well as the musicians.

"It is for free followers only - but excellent." - Barry McRae, Jazz Journal
"The final track Oxford is the full quartet unleashing and Coxhill is playing as a true co-operator, as he did as a member of the 30-plus-strong London Improvisers' Orchestra or rock-steady bands with Rico Rodriguez or bop formations with Stan Tracey and Bobby Wellins - full of empathy, sonic unity and ensemble generosity with whomever he shared the performance." - Chris Searle, Morning Star
