Description
After being discovered by producer Adrian Baker in 1978, Liquid Gold narrowly missed the Top 40 with their debut single ‘Anyway You Do It’. The club friendly flip-side, ‘My Baby’s Baby’, was favoured by US DJs, whose heavy turntable rotation propelled the song to number five on the Billboard Dance Charts.
Building on that initial flush of success, 1980 would prove to be a stellar year for the group, starting with the unforgettable ‘Dance Yourself Dizzy’, a perennial classic that reached number two on the U.K. charts. This was quickly followed by another Top Ten hit, ‘Substitute’ and the Top 40 single ‘The Night, The Wine And The Roses’. Their self-titled album also made the Top 40.
Further chart success followed in the early 80s with the 1981 Song For Europe entry ‘Don’t Panic’, and the melancholy ‘Where Did We Go Wrong’.
Lead singer Ellie Hope went on to release a solo single in 1983, ‘Lucky’ and, although the group would disband in 1984, their signature hit ‘Dance Yourself Dizzy’, found new life in the 90s when it was sampled by Yomanda on the Top Ten hit ‘Synth And Strings’.
Now for the first time, their album, 7”, 12”, instrumental versions and remixes have been gathered together for one definitive 3CD collection.
