Description
As a follow up to ‘Evocación’, last year’s highly-acclaimed recording of transcriptions of the music of Albeniz (CC72374), the Lieske Spindler Guitars release a disc of music which covers a range of styles since the middle of the last century. It includes the Tango Suite by Astor Piazzolla, as well as an arrangement of the great jazz pianist Charles Mingus’ classic ‘Goodbye Pork-Pie Hat’, and Bottom’s Dream, a four-part suite written by one of the duo, Wulfin Lieske.
Formed in 2009, the Lieske Spindler Guitars’ first release for Challenge, ‘Evocación’ (CC72374), was devoted to transcriptions of the piano works of Isaac Albéniz and released to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the composer’s birth. The duo recorded the music on two legendary instruments by Antonio de Torres, and they were rewarded with a Gramophone Editor's Choice for this breathtaking and ground-breaking two CD set.
Austrian guitarist and composer Wulfin Lieske made his professional début at the age of 14 at the famous abbey in Iona, Scotland. Today he is one of the leading international guitarists. Lieske has worked with, amongst others, Gidon Kremer, Astor Piazzolla, Juan José Mosalini, and the Hilliard Ensemble. Fabian Spindler was born in Göttingen and is one of the most promising young guitarists of his generation. During his studies in Cologne and Paris his guitar duo was awarded numerous national and international prizes.
