  • Description

Highly limited edition (300) debut EP from Indonesia's Strange Fruit on ultra clear, heavyweight 180g vinyl.

Shaped by shoegaze drift, motorik repetition, and kosmische-inflected electronics; Jakarta outfit Strange Fruit are set to release 'Drips' EP on 18th September 2026 via Tip Top Recordings. The eight-track release arrives on 12" vinyl and gathers together four original tracks along with reworks from Jonathan Kusuma, Tom Furse (The Horrors) and Hardway Bros. Written across late nights and fashioned through sessions with producer Bernardus Fritz, the EP documents the band finding how to let machines and instinct pull in the same direction.

'Pouvoir Moteur' (French for "motoric power") leans into propulsion and atmosphere, drawing from the ritual pulse of kosmische music. Balancing motorik momentum with a wistful pop sensibility, 'Monopolar' drifts between clarity and abstraction, its tremolo-soaked vocals and slowly unfurling synth lines tracing the uncertain space between memory, desire and daydream.

'Iridescent' finds Strange Fruit embracing a Balearic sensibility, allowing shimmering synthesisers, patient rhythm and open space to do much of the storytelling. Built from layers of saturated guitar texture, the title track places the band's shoegaze influence front and centre. It unfolds as a slow-motion swell of noise and melody, where detail remains present but the weight is carried by guitar pedal haze.

"Our early influences came through a mix of record collecting, online discovery and conversations with other musicians," says vocalist Baldi Calvianca. "Jakarta has a close-knit network of people who are deeply engaged with music, and that constant exchange of ideas has been invaluable. As the years have passed, those reference points have gradually transformed into something more personal and reflective of our own experiences."

"Although we're based in Jakarta, the music draws from a much broader set of influences," says synthesist Irza Aryadiaz. "What's exciting is seeing a community emerge around these sounds. People are creating spaces for experimentation and helping build connections between artists, audiences and ideas."

The EP also expands through a set of remixes that approach the material from different angles. Jonathan Kusuma stretches 'Iridescent' into dubbed-out acid-disco, while The Horrors' Tom Furse pushes 'Monopolar' deeper into acid-smeared, downtempo breakbeat ambience. Sean Johnston's Hardway Bros contributes a trio of versions shaped by low-slung rhythm and nocturnal space.
