Description
Released in 1969, Clouds debut The Clouds Scrapbook showcases the band's distinctive organ-driven sound, which was a precursor to the styles of later prog-rock icons like Emerson, Lake & Palmer and Yes. Billy Ritchie, the band's organist, was particularly influential, being one of the first to take a prominent, standing role as a keyboardist, setting a precedent for future musicians in the genre
The album received critical acclaim upon release, with Melody Maker naming it "Album of the Month" in September 1969. Despite its initial success, the band struggled with commercial recognition, and their innovative approach was not widely appreciated at the time. However, in hindsight, Scrapbook is regarded as a pioneering work that laid the groundwork for the progressive rock movement.
The newly remastered version of Scrapbook offers a fresh opportunity for new audiences to experience this seminal work. The remastering process has enhanced the album's sound quality, bringing out the nuances of the band's arrangements.
Chrysalis Reserve is a new series offering a deep dive into the forgotten corners of our catalogue. Unearthing overlooked masterpieces, cult classics, and genre-defying oddities that deserve a reappraisal or a proper introduction.
The Clouds Scrapbook [Chrysalis Reserve]: Available on vinyl for the first time since the original release. Remastered and cut at AIR Mastering and manufactured at Scottish pressing plant Seabass on heavyweight black vinyl.
