Description
JISR means "Bridge" in Arabic, that's the name of the international ensemble around the Moroccan Gembri player, percussionist and singer Mohcine Ramdan. In congenial cooperation with international musicians, the ensemble knows how to unite the diversity of diasporic music. Deeply rooted in various musical traditions, JISR's musical philosophy is directed towards capturing influences from all over the world and transforming them into a musical mosaic. In diverse line-ups and together with various musicians and bands from different musical genres, such as Konstantin Wecker, Iva Bitova, the Bavarian Philharmonic, Embryo and the Express Brass Band, JISR follows the path of musical exchange, fusion and improvisation. The result is a micro-cosmos of different musical colours, from Krautrock to arabic Maqam and the polyrhythm of Gnawa music.
The Album - TOO FAR AWAY In this album TOO FAR AWAY, JISR takes a journey through various musical styles and cultures. The ensemble's repertoire is considerable: from Arabic classical music and poetry, African Gnawa grooves to rock, Balkan, jazz, tango and flamenco. A futuristic ethnographic snapshot of polycultural musical traditions that breaks down boundaries and fills the maximum of imaginative space, unconventionally orchestrated and with a great longing for foreign worlds of sound. In cooperation with one of the most prominent oud players of the present (Roman Bunka), musicians of the world music pioneers Embryo, musicians of the Express Brass Band, Radio Citizen and other guests like Luis Borda and Dine Doneff, JISR offers a maximum of musical variation.
