Description
Award-winning saxophonist, composer and bandleader, Yuri Honing, is renowned for his exquisite saxophone tone and compositions that reflect his jazz roots and love of songs and electronics. Honing's latest release, True, was recorded in a single day in Berlin, and features 6 original compositions that demonstrate his beautiful unique sound, alongside fine interpretations of "Paper Bag" by Will Gregory & Alison Goldfrapp and "Bring Me the Disco King" by David Bowie.
Honing's current acoustic quartet includes three excellent musicians - ECM recording artist, Wolfert Brederode, bringing the piano back into Honing's music after an absence of a decade; long time collaborator Joost Lijbaart on drums and double bassist Ruben Samama, who wrote "Nobody Knows" (track 8 on the album).
Honing has always been eager to experiment with music from different genres and over the years has collaborated with a number of distinguished musicians - Dutch improviser Misha Mengelberg, Lebanese singer Rima Khcheich as well as jazz greats such as Herbie Hancock, Charlie Haden and Pat Metheny. In 2002 Honing was awarded a Grammy for the album 'Seven' with Paul Bley, Gary Peacock and Paul Motion and in May 2012 he won the prestigious Dutch award - Boy Edgar Prijis.
Personnel: Yuri Honing (saxophones), Wolfert Brederode (piano, harmonium), Ruben Samama (double bass), Joost Lijbaart (drums)
