Description
The Raga Bop Trio brings together three remarkable musical talents, drummer Steve Smith, saxophonist George Brooks and guitarist Prasanna, in a distinctly twenty-first century global music collaboration. The music of the trio is unique in that the group's direction is grounded in jazz, with its focus on groove, atmosphere and harmonic adventure, yet also deeply rooted in the rhythmic and melodic traditions of Indian classical music.
Steve Smith has performed with the likes of Mike Mainieri's Steps Ahead, Michael Brecker, Zakir Hussain, Mike Stern, Stanley Clarke and many others. George Brooks has founded several important Indian fusion groups including Summit with Zakir Hussain and Steve Smith and Bombay Jazz with Larry Coryell and Ronu Majumdar. Prasanna has worked on Indian movie soundtracks with AR Rahman and has played with Joe Lovano, Trilok Gurtu, Airto Moreira and others.
Personnel: Steve Smith (drums, konnakol), George Brooks (tenor & alto saxophones), Prasanna (electric & acoustic guitars)
