  • Description

A veteran of the British 'Trad Jazz' scene, trombonist and sometime singer Malcolm 'Mac' Duncan first came to notice in the highest regarded line-up of Ken Colyer's Jazzmen during the second half of the 1950s. By the early '70s Trad Jazz had largely retreated to the pub circuit, one of the most popular venues in the London area being The Lord Napier at Thornton Heath. Here Duncan built a dedicated audience on Saturday nights with a band also featuring trumpeter Sonny Morris, originally of the Crane River Jazz Band. This CD captures the atmosphere of one of those boozy, smokey Saturday nights, conveying the energy and enthusiasm which made their sessions so faithfully attended week after week for many years. "A great band and great music. A must on your shopping list" (Just Jazz, July 2003)
