California based pianist and composer Markus Burger's new project Accidental
Tourists - 'The L.A. Sessions' sees him in tandem with the all-star West Coast rhythm section of Joe LaBarbera (best known for associations with jazz great Bill Evans and singer Tony Bennett) and bassist Bob Magnusson (a frequent collaborator with Art Pepper, George Cables and Peter Erskine). The recording mainly features Burger's original compositions alongside some of his favourite standards.
Prior to this the pianist released eight albums which range from the avant-garde stylings of 'Genesis' to his Spiritual Standards project, a collection of contemporary jazz pieces based on Johann Sebastian Bach's chorales. With an improvisational style that is in equal parts poignant and inventive, 'The L.A. Sessions' is a convincing illustration of yet another facet of this versatile performer's musical personality.
