Description
Although they are no longer a particularly fashionable pop commodity, there was a time, a long time ago, when instrumentals and instrumental combos ruled the UK's airwaves and frequently landed at or near the top of our charts.
Unlike the likes of the Shadows and the Ventures, the two groups featured in this Jasmine compilation did not really exist outside of the studio, but both the Piltdown Men and B. Bumble and the Stingers have left their permanent mark on non-vocal pop culture in much the same way.
Both the Piltdowns and the Stingers were comprised of members from the pool of Los Angeles studio musicians that we tend to use the 'catch all' of The Wrecking Crew to describe. Both 'groups' played and scored hits with adaptations of classical music and both were considerably more popular in the UK than they were back home!
This compilation features the A and B sides of every 45 that both groups released between 1960 and 1962 - in the case of the Piltdowns, their complete discography! - and therefore includes every UK chart hit that both groups ever had. All tracks are mastered from the best possible sources and several are making their CD debut here.
We can't physically take you back to simpler times when pubs closed early out of choice and the only person who wore a mask was The Lone Ranger, but this veritable bonanza of instrumentals will get you pretty close! You would be off your Nut Rocker not to want a copy!
