    Pianist, composer, arranger Roy Kral teamed up with Jackie Cain as a bop duo in the Charlie Ventura band during 1948-49. They married in '49 and then formed a bop sextet, first recording for Atlantic the same year.

    Their musical intelligence together with their bright, clear and accurate voices, with similar ranges but an octave apart, made them among the era's best jazz singers. They were also one of the first acts to sing in the vocalese style, using lyrics to fit improvisations.
