  • Description

Sensual vocal powerhouse Janiva Magness has already conquered the blues world, winning the Blues Music Award for Contemporary Female Artist Of The Year in 2006 and 2007. With a smoky voice that sets blues, soul and R&B on fire, Janiva is primed to break out to a much wider audience with this, her third album and Alligator debut.

Janiva delivers nearly 200 live shows a year and is a favourite on the North American and European festival circuit (including Switzerland, France, Poland and Spain). She also receives exposure as the national spokesperson for the Casey Family Programs, a non-profit organization that assists foster children and families in the USA. It ís a position she comes by as a result of her triumph over her own unfortunate childhood (an orphan at 16, Janiva lived on the streets, was in 12 foster homes, and became a teenage mother who gave her baby up for adoption).

This album is a tour de force of earthy blues, soul and R&B defined by Janiva's husky and commanding vocals. Whether she ís hanging out on the same infectious roots corner as Bonnie Raitt and Lucinda Williams, mining deep soul like Etta James or unleashing a volcanic Tina Turner-inspired rocker, Janiva's heartfelt conviction and undeniable vocal presence take listeners for a passionate, groove-laden ride.
