Description
Lumiere formed four years ago, when two distinctive, acclaimed, award-winning and hugely talented solo artists from the Irish folk scene, ÉilÃs Kennedy and Pauline Scanlon, found common root in their hometown of Dingle Co Kerry, its culture and its song, and a common mission in voice.
"We're singing songs that our families have passed on to us, that we ourselves have picked up along the way. The only other pre-requisite is that the songs speak to us emotionally."
Releasing their self-titled debut three years ago, Lumiere's artistry immediately struck a chord in their homeland and further afield, where their offer of something more holistic and true caught the economic zeitgeist over the regular industry output of songs of excess and materialism.
With their debut charting in Ireland, and for the last three years consistently seen and heard all across Irish press, radio and tv, Lumiere's message has spread across Europe to the US and Australasia. This spread culminated in autumn 2012, when the duo completed a triumphant six week Celtic Divas tour, playing many of Australia and New Zealand's most prestigious venues. Proof that you can take something that is sacred and age-old and re-imagine it simply and beautifully, and reclaim beauty, truth and trust for the modern age.
Here, then, is Lumiere's second full-length album. Once again produced by John Reynolds (Sinead O'Connor, Andrea Corr, U2, Damien Dempsey), My Dearest Dear is another collection of songs traditional and modern, afforded the joyous Lumiere makeover, one highlight of many being a new version of Who Knows Where The Time Goes, perhaps most famously interpreted by Sandy Denny, now re-imagined with guest vocalist Sinead O'Connor.
