Description
Combining accordion-riffed nostalgia and teenage angst acoustic guitar, punctuated by gravelled and howling Scottish-toned vocals are adolescent prodigal brother duo JR GREEN.
JR GREEN calls out to us with their debut EP “Bring The Witch Doctor. An honest, confessional debut; Feral, poetic and at the core a sound of Scotland which reaches out to a modern folk.
Written with Scotland’s west coast beaches and bleak bothies as their backdrop, but distinctly distilled on the grimy floors of last night’s party, makes this end-of-the-bed written debut release a perfectly crafted collection of songs describing “strange ideas of love, “neon tears and “the broken youth.
JR GREEN’s debut EP has grown from childhood introductions to the likes of Steeleye Span- but after the then aged 7 and 9 brothers’ move to Strontian, a remote Scottish village a few miles from the most westerly point on mainland Britain, it was the sweaty floored Ceilidh life and teenage introduction to The Strokes and The Libertines that has just ten years later, made for, in their words, a “Low-fi traditional skronk sound.
“Bring The Witch Doctor was recorded at The Diving Bell Lounge in the east end of Glasgow by Marcus Mackay (Snow Patrol, Frightened Rabbit, Kathryn Joseph, Alasdair Roberts) and Joe McAlinden (Superstar, _Linden, E.D.I.T.).
Launch label Hits the Fan Records, home to Frightened Rabbit’s much loved debut “Sing the Greys (2006) and Kathryn Joseph’s SAY Award winning album (“bones you have thrown me and blood I’ve spilled (2015)) will be making JR Green’s, “Bring The Witch Doctor their 3rd release.
With JR Green appearing in a couple of "2016 top tips lists" - this year has got off to a really strong start for them.
Their first single, Nigerian princess, has been getting them some attention on BBC Radio 1, 6 Music and it was made Single of the Week on BBC Radio Scotland as well as being a featured artist on Vic Galloway BBC Introducing.
In January, debut single "Nigerian Princess" was Huw Stephens BBC introducing "Tip of the week" and hey had a live session for Vic Galloway (alongside C Duncan and Trembling Bells) as part of Celtic Connections
