Description
Founded in Munich in 1980, the band still plays with its original line-up: Justin Hoffman, Thomas Meinecke, Michaela Melian and Wilfried Petzi.Since 1990, the fifth permanent member is drummer Carl Oesterhelt. From the beginning, the band saw itself in the tradition of art school bands: not virtuosity, but attitude plays the central role. F.S.K. make music about music, which includes both their own songs and numerous cover versions, especially since the frequent appearances and recordings in U.K. (for John Peel) and U.S.A. (with David Lowery) in the 1980s and 1990s. The new studio album, TOPSY-TURVY, in some respects draws on working methods from past periods of the band. Thus, as on the first albums, there are string and wind overdubs, which sometimes lapse into the late-Romantic orchestral, but are also improvisational in nature (cello, four-hand piano, trumpet). The eight pieces were produced in live takes at the Alien Research Center provided by the friendly band The Notwist and mixed by Mario Thaler.
