Description
Jon Langford was originally the drummer for the punk band The Mekons who formed at the University of Leeds in 1977, but he later took up the guitar and vocals as the band helped develop the popularity of punk alongside contemporaries like Gang Of Four.
Since the mid-1980s, Jon has been considered one of the leading figures in incorporating folk and country music into punk rock. In other words, he is one of the godfathers of "alt-country".
Jon has released a number of critically acclaimed solo recordings both as Jon Langford and as Jon Langford & Skull Orchard as well as records with other bands outside of The Mekons, including the Waco Brothers (who he co-founded after moving to Chicago in the early ''90s), Three Johns (with John Hyatt and John (Phillip) Brennan), Pine Valley Cosmonauts and Wee Hairy Beasties.
