Description
Since 1983 Dan Burke and his conspirators have dug through almost every facet of the avant sound plane, from early industrial pop deconstruction to blindingly minimal sound art to densely surreal found-sound collage, each unique approach bending and reconstituting the expectations and possibilities of each realm. Plowing through layered field recordings, deeply rumbling tones, and eerie electroacoustic sounds with seamless transitions between cut-and-paste collages and manufactured drones, it's easy to get lost in the deep passages. It's a surreal trip mixing outsourced sounds from all over the world and encompassing everything: abstract analogue synthesizer explorations, chaotic digital noise and voltage fluctuations, generating excitement in the bowels of analog equipment, and the rattle and chilling moan of iron sheets. In 2024 Illusion Of Safety returned to Vienna for a concert at Rhiz club which forms track one on this CD. The day after, Dan Burke improvised with several protagonists of the Austrian improv scene at Celeste club, the quartet being Dan, Eric Arn on guitar, Michael Masen on sax and Michi Prehofer on drums. A part of that set makes track two on this CD. This is not only a lovely memory of two great nights in Vienna, it is also a showcase of the many facets that make up Dan Burke's creative output.
