Description
Forrest (Forrest M. Thomas, Jr.) hailed from Galveston, Texas, where he honed his singing abilities in church during his formative years. As a teenager he moved to Los Angeles to further his career where he won several singing contests. After another move to the Netherlands Forrest appeared on one single with the group Future before releasing his debut LP on Ariola Records at the age of 30.
Released in 1983 the album was titled 'One Lover' in all territories except the UK where it was simply called Forrest. An excellent and overlooked example of a great 80''s R&B/Soul/Dance record, it achieved two major hit singles and boasts several more superb cuts. 'Rock The Boat' (UK #4), a cover of The Hues Corporation's US #1, uses smooth synth lines to compliment Forrest's vocals and includes a great percussive sequence complete with rolling synthdrums, courtesy of Ben Liebrand.
'Feel The Need In Me' (UK #17), a cover of The Detroit Emeralds classic, is given a tempo lift and a spoken intro over funky guitar chops. Third single 'One Lover (Don''t Stop The Show)' (UK #67) is a superb slice of uptempo-soul with another great percussive interlude as is final single 'Dancing With My Shadow'. -
