Description
The legendary jazz pianist Horace Silver and his quintet, played a wonderful open air concert in Germany in 1977 that was recorded by German station Radio Bremen. It is now available for the first time in full length.
It's Sunday at 6pm and the sun is shining, everyone is so relaxed. Then Horace Silver and his quintet enter the stage on Bremen's market place. Nearly seventy minutes of wonderful music and breathtaking solos are to follow. One could see Horace smile while absorbing the lovely and peaceful atmosphere. He feels comfortable about performing here - it's his thing.
Silver presents a selection of titles from his early Seventies albums 'In Pursuit of the 27th Man', 'Silver'n'Brass', and 'Silver'n'Voices'. And of course he closed the set with another rendition of one of his masterpieces, namely "Song for My Father". The music is hard bop with influences from soul jazz, as well as African and Latin American music.
This is the second volume in Promising Music's Livelove series, which captures concerts recorded by German state-owned station Radio Bremen.
Personnel: Horace Silver (piano), Tom Harrell (trumpet, flugelhorn), Larry Schneider (tenor saxophone), Chip Jackson (bass, bass guitar), Eddie Gladden (drums)
