Description
At the time these broadcast performances were made the trumpeter and bandleader Harry James with his Music Makers were about the biggest things in the American entertainment business. James had signed a new deal with Columbia records which gave him access to the best studio set up in New York and in the summer of 1942 the before Glenn Miller entered the military he generously recommended that Harry take over his three times a week CBS radio Chesterfield show. Recordings from this and other broadcasts make up this collection with its top quality sound.
Personnel: Harry James, Claude Bowen, Nick Buono, Alex Cuozzo (trumpets), Hoyt Bonahannon, Dalton Rizzotto, Harry Rodgers, Sy Zentner (trombones), Wendell Culley (French horn), Claude Lakey, Sam Marowitz (alto sax), Willie Smith (clarinet, alto sax), Corky Corcoran, George Davis (tenor sax), Al Lerner (piano), Ben Heller (guitar), Thurman Teague (bass), Mickey Scrima (drums), Helen Ward (vocals), and others
