Description
Acknowledged as one of the most talented multi-faceted music men of the € 70s, € 80s, € 90s and beyond, California-born George's career began working with a diverse range of musicians including such pioneers as Cannonball Adderley and Frank Zappa before he started his own solo recording journey in the mid- € 70s.
Within a year of George's impressive stint with Epic, he enjoyed a first U.S. chart breakthrough with 1977's € Reach For It', continuing with the funk classic, € Dukey Stick' in 1978. George's acclaimed 1979 project € Brazilian Love Affair' spawned a UK charted hit with the title track. Further success came with his teaming with super-bassist Stanley Clarke resulting in George's biggest U.S. hit, 1981's € Sweet Baby'.
Compiled by David Nathan, this sumptuous 2-cd follows the Soulmusic Records' reissues of several of George's best-selling Epic albums; stellar notes by renowned UK writer Charles Waring include quotes from Duke cohorts Ndugu Chancler and Byron Miller and his cousin, Dianne Reeves; great remastering by James Bragg highlights the distinctive funk/jazz & R&B work
