  • Description

Frijid Pink, best known for their fuzzed out, hard rock version of 'House Of The Rising Sun,' was part of the thriving Detroit rock scene in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The quartet was the first Detroit rock act to score a Top 10 US hit (with 'House') and a Top 20 US album with their self-titled debut LP. Their first single 'Tell Me Why' was issued in December 1968, followed by 'GodGave Me You' in August 1969, but it was their stunning cover of 'House Of The Rising Sun' issued in late 1969 that carried the band to international stardom at the onset of the 1970s.The follow-up album Defrosted (1970) contained more fuzz-based material, but the band wasmoving toward a straightforward blues direction. The band previewed the LP with the single 'Sing A Song For Freedom.' Frijid Pink quickly followed this up with the standalone single 'Heartbreak Hotel,' the gospel-influenced singles 'Music For The People' and 'We're Gonna Be There,' the last two featuring backing vocals by Telma Hopkins and Joyce Vincent Wilson (both soon to join Tony Orlando in Dawn).Repertoire Records have completely remastered Frijid Pink's catalogues for Parrot and Lion tocreate the most definitive reissues to date. Frijid Pink's original promotional and commercial single mixes, many of which have never appeared in digital form, have been assembled as the definitive word on the band's classic output.
