    The brief facts are that Frank Newton was born in 1906 and died in 1954 aged only 48. Dogged by ill health, he never fulfilled what could have been a brilliant career as all-round Jazz Band trumpet player.

    That he was highly thought of is borne out by the illustrious company he kept, many of whom (like Sidney Bechet) appear on this 50 track retrospective, Two-CDs-for-the-Price-of-One, a very generous over 2 hours 34 minutes playing time, plus a 20 page booklet.
