Description
An innovative venture, the likes of which has never been seen in Wales before, featuring 40 musicians with traditional instruments, breathing new life into traditional folk melodies but also encompassing folk singing, penillion singing and clog dancing.
Clera - The Society for the Traditional Instrument of Wales - celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2006, and the 40 musicians who appeared at the anniversary concert were the product of workshops held by Clera. This new ensemble needed a name, and as the Welsh word for orchestra is cerddorfa and Clera is the name of the society, a combination of both produced Clerorfa.
Due to the enthusiastic response this new group, they had to carry on and since then it's been a story of constant development and success, reaching a high point at the Lorient Inter-Celtic Festival in 2008 where every audience went wild, along with press and media.
So in 2009, a live concert was recorded in Galeri, Caernarfon, which was not an easy task to do justice to all the harps, flutes, fiddles, pipes, pibgyrn, clogs and individual singers and the response of the audience. Clerorfa's aims are to breathe new life into our traditional folk melodies and present them in a simple, no-nonsense way, but also encompassing other Welsh traditions – folk singing, penillion singing and clog dancing. -
