  • Description

Carpenters had yet to release their second album when they were invited to appear on Your Navy Presents in March 1970, but such was the impact of their feel-good nostalgia, Karen and Richard Carpenter were deemed the perfect tonic for beleaguered servicemen stationed overseas and missing their homeland. Recorded for broadcast on military radio stations, this collection features interviews with the sibling duo, in conversation with popular TV host and DJ Sam Riddle, plus performances of Beatles classics ('Can't Buy Me Love'; 'Help!'; their celebrated arrangement of 'Ticket to Ride'), Buffalo Springfield's 'Nowadays Clancy Can't Even Sing' and a medley of Burt Bacharach and Hal David hits.

A master class in AOR pop, the performance also serves to underscore the power music can have to heal a world lost in turmoil.
