Description
YES is the debut album from Banter, the trio of musicians who "have managed to come up with a 21st Century answer to Flowers & Frolics" according to John Spiers. Their immense sound for just 3 people consists of the unmistakable melodeon of Simon Care, the notorious keyboards and vocals of Nina Zella and the mind boggling, multi-tasking percussion, brass and drums of Tim Walker.
The first track on the album bursts at you with their blaring rendition of John Kirkpatrick's 'Jump At The Sun' and this might lead you into a false expectation of what is coming next…but you are put straight with the poignant yet blunt message in the self-penned song, 'Matthew Loves Mark' - a blatant jab at the small minded - with nothing more than piano, bodhran and voices.
The album is as diverse in its musical influences, from reggae to traditional English dance tunes, as it is in its effect... It will get you up and dancing one minute and sitting and contemplating the next.
