  • Description

MINI-LP PAPERSLEEVE GATEFOLD REPLICAS WITH OBI.

Elemental Music, together with Sony Music Entertainment, present the best selection of 60's & 70's R&B, Soul, Funk & Psychedelic Rock out of print titles from the vaults of classic labels such as Epic, Arista, Philadelphia International, Buddah Records or Columbia.

An excellent bop-based soloist who has recorded rewarding sets for Enja, Dusko Goykovich played in Yugoslavia and Germany before visiting the U.S. for the first time with Marshall Brown's International Youth Band (performing at the 1958 Newport Jazz Festival). Goykovich attended Berklee College of Music (1961-1963) and played with the orchestras of Maynard Ferguson (1963-1964) and Woody Herman (1964-1966) before returning to Germany, where he led a group with Sal Nistico (1966). Following that, he worked with the Kenny Clarke-Francy Boland Big Band (1968-73) and had a 12-piece band with Slide Hampton (1974-1975). He remained quite active in Europe during the '80s and '90s. While Miles Davis is his main influence, Dusko Goykovich has his own extroverted style.

Slavic Mood marks one of the trumpeter's finest albums. It is stylistically similar to his Swinging Macedonia (1967) session from a decade before. Both albums combine jazz with a range of Eastern European influences. The tracks are all originals by Goykovich, played by a quintet that's heavy on modal rhythms and warmly rolling grooves -a style that fit perfectly with the MPS label. Dusko plays trumpet backed by a group of international sidemen that includes Swiss musician Andy Sherrer on tenor and soprano sax, American pianist Vince Benedetti, American bassist Bert Thompson, and German drummer Joe Nay. The LP is a work of incredible depth and beauty, and is definitely one of the records to seek out if you've heard Goykovich's name over the years, but haven't yet latched onto his genius. Titles include "Kosmet," "East of Montenegro," "Flying Rome," "Got No Money" and "Slavic Mood."
