Description
A record which generated considerable attention at the time, due to its innovatory phasing/flanging technique, Miss Toni Fisher's breakthrough hit, 'The Big Hurt', very nearly topped the U.S. charts and sold a million copies worldwide in 1959.
This compilation anthologises all her releases between 1959 and 1962, for the Signet, Columbia, Bigtop and Smash labels. Included are a number of rarities which have been omitted from earlier Toni Fisher compilations, making this a must-have for her fans.
Something of a mystery woman (her "official" biographies took enormous liberties with her date of birth and earlier career), she was discovered by the celebrated songwriter Wayne Shanklin, who wrote and produced the majority of her recorded output.
Fisher also charted with 'How Deep Is The Ocean' and a second, massive international hit, the controversial 'West Of The Wall' (two lovers kept apart by the Berlin Wall), while her LP "The Big Hurt" was another big seller.
