Description
Merv Griffin was one of the major television personalities of the latter part of the 20th Century. 'Early in the Day' features some of Griffin's earliest recordings as a member of the Freddy Martin orchestra, many appearing for the first time in nearly 70 years: "Long Ago (And Far Away)", "I've Told Every Little Star", "The Song Is You", "Sleigh Ride", "Mambo Jambo", "Sam's Song", and many more.
His early single sessions with Hugo Winterhalter for RCA Victor are now released together for the first time: "Belle, Belle, My Liberty Belle", "If I Forget You", "The Morning Side of the Mountain", and several others.
His classic album of Irish songs with conductor Sidney Green in great fidelity is included. Later '50s sessions with Percy Faith, Paul Weston, The Norman Luboff Choir, Xavier Cugat, and Mitch Miller are heard again after many years.
Overall, it's Merv Griffin at his earliest and best!
