This recording presents a rare performance with basset clarinet performed by the very prestigious Ensemble Quartetto d'Archi del Teatro La Fenice di Venezia. Mozart composed the Quintets for Anton Stadler, a mason who he met in the Masonic Lodge Zur Wohltätigkeit". The works, very popular today, are usually performed on the modern clarinet but evidence has shown they were originally composed for the basset clarinet."
